New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins Pick & Prediction NOVEMBER 24th 2024
Preview and Prediction
Embarking on a journey to face the Miami Dolphins has been far from simple for the New England Patriots in the last 11 years.
Since 2013, the Patriots have only managed to win 2 out of 9 games against the Dolphins in Miami Gardens, Florida. This Sunday, they will attempt to break this streak and secure a rare victory.
First-year coach Jerod Mayo has been a part of New England's struggles in the Sunshine State. He spent his entire playing career (2008-2015) with the Patriots and then served as inside linebackers coach from 2019-2023 before taking on the role of head coach.
Mayo is determined to leave the past behind and focus on the present as the Patriots (3-8) prepare to face the Dolphins (4-6) on Sunday.
"I won't address our past struggles in Miami with the team, even though they might be listening to me right now," Mayo stated. "But what I will say is that every game is unique... It's a tough place to play, not because of the noise, but we just haven't been able to come out on top."
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who was drafted third overall this year, has given Mayo hope that they can turn things around against the Dolphins. Maye showed progress in last Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, completing 29 out of 39 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been impressed with Maye's performance and is looking forward to competing against him.
"I have a lot of respect for his game," Tagovailoa said. "He's a rookie, so there will be bumps in his journey, but he has shown flashes of what he can do both inside and outside the pocket. I'm excited to compete against him."
In their last game, Tagovailoa threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns on 28-for-36 passing, leading the Dolphins to a 34-19 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. One of his top targets was former Patriots tight end Jonnu Smith, who had six catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Miami has won their last two games after a three-game losing streak that began with a 15-10 victory against the Patriots in Week 5.
"We will stick to our game plan and adjust if necessary," Tagovailoa said, referring to the Dolphins' familiarity with the Patriots' strategies. "We are prepared for whatever they throw our way."
On Wednesday, cornerback Kendall Fuller (concussion) and offensive tackle Terron Armstead (knee) did not participate in practice for the Dolphins. Six players, including star wide receiver Tyreek Hill (wrist) and cornerback Jalen Ramsey (knee), were limited.
For the Patriots, defensive end Deatrich Wise (foot), offensive tackle Vederian Lowe (shoulder), and defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy (neck) did not practice on Wednesday. Safety Kyle Dugger was limited due to an ankle injury, and defensive end Keion White (knee) did not participate in full practice.
