Preview and Prediction

The Giants' rendition of the "New York Sack Exchange" will set their sights on Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.

The Giants (2-4) will face off against the Eagles (3-2) in a divisional matchup with a league-leading 26 sacks, only eight less than their total for the entire 2023 season. This is their highest number of sacks through six games since 1985 when Lawrence Taylor and his teammates recorded 30.

Instead of Lawrence Taylor, the Big Blue pass rush is now led by two-time Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence, who has seven sacks. Three other teammates have three sacks each, and a total of 11 Giants have at least one sack.

In their last game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Giants sacked Joe Burrow four times in a 17-7 loss at home. Linebacker Azeez Ojulari contributed two of those sacks.

While the Giants' defense has held their opponents to 21 or fewer points in their last five games, their offense has also struggled to score more than 21 points in each game this season.

Currently, the Giants have the lowest scoring offense in the NFC, averaging only 16.0 points per game.

According to Giants coach Brian Daboll, there has been improvement in certain areas, but their ultimate goal is to score points and finish drives while taking care of the ball. Daboll also expressed his disappointment in the lack of explosive plays from both the running and passing game.

This Sunday, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will be facing a Philadelphia defense with two rookie starters in the secondary: first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell and second-rounder Cooper DeJean.

In their last game against the Cleveland Browns, Mitchell and DeJean were targeted a combined eight times and only allowed three completions for 23 yards with no first downs.

DeJean, who played as the nickel corner, recorded nine tackles and a half-sack, while Mitchell, who has started five games at cornerback, helped limit the Browns to only 144 passing yards.

DeJean stated that he felt prepared for his first NFL start and had no nerves, only some excitement and butterflies leading up to the game. He also mentioned that once he made his first hit, everything slowed down for him.

The Eagles have improved their passing defense this season, moving up from 31st in the league to 21st. They will also have to face former Giant and current Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who has 574 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns in five games this season.

Barkley, who was drafted second overall by the Giants in 2018, will be making his return to MetLife Stadium, where he spent his first six seasons. He expressed that he does not expect a warm reception from the fans, but acknowledges the long-standing rivalry between the two teams.

On Wednesday, three Eagles starters missed practice due to injuries: tight end Dallas Goedert (hamstring), left tackle Jordan Mailata (hamstring), and defensive tackle Milton Williams (ankle). Mailata is expected to be out for multiple weeks, while cornerback Darius Slay (knee) was limited.

For the Giants, rookie receiver Malik Nabers was limited in practice due to a concussion, while linebacker Brian Burns (groin), punter Jamie Gillan (hamstring), and Dexter Lawrence (hip) did not practice. However, Lawrence stated that he will be playing on Sunday, and Burns also expects to play.

It was also confirmed on Wednesday that Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas will be out for the rest of the season due to a foot injury.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants Recap DEC 11TH 2022

Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another TD, Miles Sanders ran for two scores, and the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the host New York Giants 48-22 Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.

The league-leading Eagles (12-1) clinched a playoff berth after Hurts was 21 of 31 for 217 yards and rushed seven times for 77 yards.

Sanders ran 17 times for a career-high 144 yards and became the first Eagle to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing in a season since LeSean McCoy in 2014.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones finished 18 of 27 for 169 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for a score.

The Giants (7-5-1) are 0-3-1 in their past four games.

The Eagles jumped to a 7-0 lead following an impressive 14-play, 84-yard drive in 8:05 capped by Sanders' 3-yard touchdown run with 4:14 left in the first quarter.

Philadelphia went ahead 14-0 when Hurts connected on a 41-yard TD pass to DeVonta Smith on fourth-and-7 with 12:05 remaining in the second. New York's Julian Love appeared to go for the interception instead of knocking the ball down and got beaten.

Giants punter Jamie Gillan soon muffed the snap and then illegally kicked the ball off a bounce. It resulted in a 10-yard penalty and loss of down.

On the Eagles' next snap, Hurts lofted a 33-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown for a 21-0 advantage with 8:16 to go in the second quarter.

Elerson Smith blocked Arryn Siposs' punt, which gave the Giants possession at the Eagles' 15-yard-line with 4:15 left. Siposs advanced the ball and was hurt after a hit out of bounds. He was carted off the field with an ankle injury.

The Giants took advantage and closed to 21-7 when Jones threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Hodgins.

Jake Elliott kicked 29- and 39-yard field goals for a 27-7 Philadelphia lead.

Jones plunged in from the 1 to slice the deficit to 27-14 with 5:40 left in the third. Hurts responded with a 10-yard touchdown scamper for a 34-14 advantage with 1:41 remaining in the quarter.

Sanders' 40-yard touchdown run with 6:01 to go gave the Eagles a 41-14 advantage. He has 11 rushing touchdowns this season.

Boston Scott added a 3-yard run for a 34-point lead with 3:09 left.

Giants backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor threw a late touchdown pass and a two-point conversion to end the scoring.
