Preview and Prediction

The University of Connecticut had a week off leading up to their game against Wake Forest. This break may give the Huskies an extra boost of energy as they take on the Demon Deacons in East Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday.

Currently, Connecticut (4-2) is on a three-game winning streak.

According to Huskies coach Jim Mora, "I haven't noticed any signs of fatigue in our team. I believe our team did a great job during the offseason of building endurance and pushing themselves. This will definitely benefit us in the long run."

This will be the first time this season that Wake Forest (2-4) will be leaving the state of North Carolina.

So far, the Demon Deacons have only managed to defeat one Football Bowl Subdivision team in 2024.

Mora stated, "We can't focus on their record. We need to analyze how they play on film. They have a lot of experience at a crucial position, which is quarterback. I actually recruited Hank Bachmeier when I was at UCLA. He has a lot of game time under his belt and is very skilled."

Mora even has a photo of himself with Bachmeier, who is in his first season with the Demon Deacons.

Last Saturday, Wake Forest suffered a tough loss to No. 10 Clemson, with a final score of 49-14 at home.

Demon Deacons coach Dave Clawson expressed, "We have the potential to have a successful year. We are currently 2-4, but we have lost to two top 10 teams and two close games."

UConn's last game was a 29-20 victory against Temple on October 5th. The extra time off before facing Wake Forest will likely be beneficial for the Huskies.

The Demon Deacons' unconventional offense will pose a unique challenge for UConn's defense.

Mora explained, "It's very difficult to prepare for. It's a complex system. You have to be patient, but you can't play passively."

In the past six years, Wake Forest has a record of 18-7 in non-conference games. However, they have lost their two most recent games against non-conference opponents, falling to Mississippi and Louisiana.

Clawson acknowledged, "They have done an excellent job of turning things around from last year. They look like a top-tier football team."

Huskies quarterback Joe Fagnano has thrown for 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions this season. He is currently at 999 passing yards.

There may be some new elements added to UConn's offense, but that doesn't necessarily mean new plays.

Mora stated, "We are always making adjustments each week. We try to disguise our plays through formations, motions, and personnel groups."

UConn has won their last five home games dating back to last season. The last time these two teams met was in the 2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl, where Wake Forest came out on top with a score of 24-10 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
