Georgia Bulldogs vs. Mississippi Rebels Pick & Prediction NOVEMBER 9th 2024
Preview and Prediction
The No. 16 Ole Miss Rebels are currently on the outside of the College Football Playoff picture, with the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs standing in their way. Georgia, a perennial powerhouse in the Southeastern Conference, will face off against Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (7-1, 5-1 SEC) are looking to solidify their bid for a fourth consecutive conference championship appearance, while the Rebels (7-2, 3-2) have also been consistently ranked in the initial CFP rankings for the past four years, reaching as high as 10th in 2023.
According to Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, this week's game against Georgia is a great challenge that the team is excited about. While Kiffin typically avoids discussing playoffs and championships, he acknowledges that the Rebels still have a chance at these goals and believes that any team that wants to win it all will have to go through Georgia at some point.
The Rebels will be led by quarterback Jaxson Dart, who currently leads the nation in passing yards (3,210) and passing efficiency rating (192.4). He has also thrown 21 touchdowns and only three interceptions this season. Ole Miss is seeking revenge for last year's 52-17 loss to the Bulldogs in Athens, Georgia, when they were 8-1 going into the game.
Kiffin acknowledges that last year's game did not go well for the Rebels, but he believes that every game and season is different. He also feels that the team is in a better place this year.
Georgia's defense has been impressive in their last two games, holding then-No.1 Texas to just 259 total yards and limiting Florida to 228 yards. However, Ole Miss poses a significant challenge as they rank second in the nation in yards per game (555.4) and fourth in points per game (42.1).
The Bulldogs have won four straight games since their 41-34 loss to Alabama on September 28th. They are coming off a 34-20 victory over rival Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. Quarterback Carson Beck, who was a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns in the win, but also threw three interceptions for the second consecutive game and has a total of 11 interceptions this season.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart acknowledges that Beck made more positive plays than negative ones in the last game, but the mistakes are still a concern. He believes that Beck needs to make good decisions and avoid catastrophic mistakes.
The Bulldogs have dominated the all-time series against the Rebels, with a record of 33-12-1 and winning 11 of the last 12 meetings.
