Preview and Prediction

As they approach what is already one of the most disastrous seasons in the history of their program, Florida State is not yet finished as they prepare to face Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Seminoles (1-9) have suffered six consecutive losses and one more defeat would equal their worst record after 11 games since their 1-10 season in 1974. Their all-time worst record was a winless 0-11 season in 1973.

"The performance of our football team this year has not met our expectations or desires," stated Florida State coach Mike Norvell. "We need to evaluate where we may have disconnects and where we can place a greater emphasis to achieve the desired results in all areas."

A loss to the struggling FCS program Charleston Southern (1-10) could make things even worse for Florida State. During their bye week following a dismal 52-3 loss to Notre Dame, the Seminoles made sweeping changes to Norvell's staff, releasing offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, and longtime receivers coach Ron Dugans.

FSU just completed their worst season in conference play since joining the ACC, with a record of 1-7. After hosting the Buccaneers, the Seminoles will finish their season at home against rival Florida.

"I believe our players have handled the changes well, both within the program and around it," Norvell commented. "Of course, everyone has their own feelings about it, coaches and players alike, but I think they have done an excellent job of staying focused on the present and continuing to push and work towards playing our best game this week and showcasing it on the field."

The Buccaneers are coming off a disappointing 16-13 overtime loss to Eastern Illinois, despite their defense recording a season-high seven sacks. This loss secured Charleston Southern's first winless season in Big South/Ohio Valley Conference play since 2011.

The Bucs also had two interceptions by Leon Thomas and Ja'Kobe North, while Dylan Manuel had a sack and recovered a fumble caused by Darrius Bell, who also had a sack.

"Our players have fought and given us everything they have this season," stated Charleston Southern coach Gabe Giardina. "I feel for them because this is a tough way to lose."
