Preview and Prediction

It is uncertain whether or not Boston's forward Jaylen Brown will be included in the starting lineup for the Celtics' game against the visiting Golden State Warriors on Wednesday evening.

Brown has been absent from Boston's last two matches due to a strain in his hip flexor. Following Monday's 123-93 victory over Atlanta, Boston's coach Joe Mazzulla stated that Brown's status is "day to day."

This season, Brown has been averaging 25.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He has missed a total of 14 games since the start of the 2023-24 season, and Boston has emerged victorious in all 14 of those games.

In the match against the Hawks, Jayson Tatum carried the Boston offense by scoring 28 points, with 26 of those points coming in the first half. Tatum has been the top scorer in six out of the eight games played by Boston so far.

Mazzulla commented on Tatum's performance, saying, "He found opportunities by creating space. He scored a couple of points in transition. He drove to the basket. He had a good balance of shooting three-pointers and driving in the first half, and then he started making plays. He had five assists in the third quarter. It was a well-rounded game by him."

After missing three games due to an ankle injury, Stephen Curry returned to the Golden State lineup for Monday's 125-112 victory over Washington. He scored 24 points and had six assists in the win, which extended Golden State's winning streak to four games.

Golden State's coach Steve Kerr stated that Curry was limited to 24 minutes of play against the Wizards.

Kerr said, "He looked like he was moving really well. He looked strong. He played a great game in his 24 minutes. Assuming he feels good tomorrow, I don't anticipate any major restrictions on his minutes for the game against Boston."

The Warriors have won six out of their seven games, making it their best start to a season since they won 11 out of their first 12 games in 2021-22. The victory over Washington on Monday improved Golden State's road record to 4-0.

Kerr said, "We are pleased with our start. To have a record of 6-1, I think that exceeds our expectations, but we are also aware that our schedule has been favorable to us. We have played against teams that have had injuries, and we have played against young teams. However, it is about to get a lot more challenging. We will be facing the three best teams in the league this week (Boston, Cleveland, and Oklahoma City). I am happy with our progress, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us."

Kerr continued, "We need to improve our offensive execution. We took care of the ball (against the Wizards), but it did not feel like a clean game for us in terms of execution. So, we need to get better in that area. In the last couple of games, we have not forced many turnovers. I do not think we have been as disruptive as we were in the first five games. Hopefully, we will see some improvement on both ends of the court."

Wednesday's game will bring together Tatum and Kerr, who had benched Tatum for multiple games during the Paris Olympics.

Tatum said, "We will be playing against Steph Curry, someone I am close with. And obviously, I am close with Draymond Green as well. I know this is a rematch of the Finals from a few years ago. From that perspective, it will be fun to play against those guys. We have had some intense battles over the last couple of years. So, it will definitely be enjoyable."

Golden State vs. Boston Recap APR 17TH 2021

Klay Thompson broke the eighth tie of the final 9:07 with two free throws with 46.1 seconds remaining Saturday night and the Golden State Warriors held on to beat the host Boston Celtics 115-111 in a nationally televised showdown of streaking teams.

The win was the Warriors' 10th straight overall and ninth in a row on the road, the longest in the NBA this season.

Boston, which had won its last five games, had a 10-game home winning streak snapped.

Thompson's free throws came after Marcus Smart nailed a 3-pointer with 1:08 to play to draw the teams even at 111.

After Thompson gave the Warriors the lead, the Celtics took two shots at reclaiming the upper hand, but Smart and Al Horford both missed 3-pointers.

Draymond Green missed two free throws with 8.6 seconds remaining to allow the Celtics potentially to get one final opportunity to tie the game or win it, but he managed to grab the offensive rebound and fed Stephen Curry, who was fouled with 6.2 seconds to go.

Curry made two free throws to ice Golden State's fourth straight win on a five-game trip that ends Monday at Indiana.

The two foul shots capped a 4-for-4 night at the line for Curry, who has made his last 46 free throws.

Kevin Durant led the Warriors, the two-time defending champions, with 33 points and nine rebounds, while Curry finished with 24 points and Thompson 21.

DeMarcus Cousins added 15 points and eight rebounds in 23 minutes in his fourth game of the season. Green was the Warriors' leading rebounder with 11 to complement five points, eight assists and three steals.

Golden State outshot Boston 44.6 percent to 41.4.

The Warriors have not lost a road game since Dec. 19 at Utah.

Kyrie Irving recorded a 32-point, 10-assist double-double for the Celtics, who had opened a five-game homestand with wins over Miami and Cleveland.

Horford also logged a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while Jayson Tatum added 20 points, Smart 12 and Jaylen Brown 10 for the Celtics.

Twelve of Irving's 32 points came on four 3-pointers as the Celtics outscored the Warriors 45-36 from beyond the arc.

The home loss was the Celtics' first since Dec. 21 against Milwaukee.

Neither team led by more than nine points in the contest.
