Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets Pick & Prediction APRIL 9th 2025

Preview and Prediction
The most frigid home game in recent memory has not dampened the fiery New York Mets.
The Mets will aim to complete a consecutive sweep on Wednesday afternoon, as they host the Miami Marlins in the final game of a three-game series.
Tylor Megill (2-0, 0.87 ERA) is set to take the mound for the Mets against fellow right-hander Max Meyer (0-1, 3.09).
On Tuesday afternoon, the Mets secured their sixth consecutive win, with Pete Alonso continuing his early-season dominance by driving in four runs in a 10-5 victory.
The 10 runs tied the Mets' season high, as they had only scored 18 runs in their previous five wins. During this span, their pitchers allowed just eight runs while keeping the Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays to a .222 average.
Despite the challenging conditions, with an average first-pitch temperature of 50 degrees on the homestand, the Mets' offense was able to heat up on Tuesday.
The first-pitch temperature of 43 degrees was accompanied by 19 mph winds blowing from left to right, resulting in wind chills in the mid-30s. The game was moved up to 4:10 p.m. from its scheduled time, due to the forecast predicting even colder temperatures later in the evening.
After the Marlins took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Mets' leadoff hitter Francisco Lindor hit a home run on the fifth pitch he saw from Connor Gillispie, sparking a 13-hit onslaught by the Mets. Every starter, except Tyrone Taylor, had at least one hit.
"This could have been a really easy game to just go through the motions and make excuses, but we didn't do that," said Alonso, who had a wind-aided RBI double in the third inning and a three-run double in the sixth, giving him seven RBIs on the homestand and 15 RBIs overall.
"I think that was a huge statement game for us."
The Marlins suffered their fourth loss in the last five games, showcasing their inconsistency on Tuesday.
Miami, who had only scored four runs and been shut out twice in their previous three games, matched their season high in runs scored. However, they also allowed 10 runs for the third time this season and committed at least one error for the sixth time in 11 games.
An error by first baseman Matt Mervis on Lindor's fifth-inning grounder led to three unearned runs, as the Mets took the lead for good on two-RBI hits by Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte.
However, center fielder Derek Hill prevented a more one-sided defeat for the Marlins. In the sixth inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, he made a diving catch on the warning track, saving the Marlins from giving up more runs.
"The wind today was definitely wild," said Hill, who also hit a home run in the top of the sixth. "There were a couple of balls that died going into the gap. A couple of balls that took off. It was an interesting day out there, for sure."
Megill earned a win on Friday, allowing only two hits over 5 1/3 innings in the Mets' 5-0 victory over the Blue Jays. Meyer took a loss the same day, giving up three runs over six innings as the Marlins fell 10-0 to the Atlanta Braves.
Megill has a career record of 2-2 with a 3.74 ERA in five games (four starts) against the Marlins. Meyer lost his only previous start and appearance against the Mets on August 17th, when he gave up four runs on six hits over four innings in New York's 4-0 win.

Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets Recap APR 9TH 2025
Max Meyer combined with two relievers on a two-hitter and Matt Mervis hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs Wednesday afternoon as the visiting Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets, 5-0.
Meyer (1-1) pitched 5 1/3 hitless innings before allowing a single to Francisco Lindor. He tied a career high by pitching 6 1/3 innings. Meyer allowed a single to Pete Alonso to open the seventh and was lifted after retiring Brandon Nimmo on a fly ball.
Meyer struck out four, walked two and recorded eight more outs on the ground. It was the second time in 14 career starts Meyer has pitched 6 1/3 innings.
Mervis and Nick Fortes hit RBI singles in the fifth following a throwing error by New York second baseman Brett Baty. Jonah Bride added an RBI single in the ninth off New York closer Edwin Diaz before Mervis lifted a two-run homer to right field for a 5-0 lead.
Anthony Bender followed Meyer and pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings and Lake Bachar completed Miami's second shutout when Dane Myers crashed into the center field fence to get a fly ball by Alonso.
New York's Tylor Megill (2-1) started the game by issuing consecutive four-pitch walks to Xavier Edwards and Kyle Stowers before settling in. The right-hander allowed two unearned runs on six hits to go along with seven strikeouts and three walks in four-plus innings.
The Mets saw a six-game winning streak end and took their first home loss. New York was blanked for the first time this season and Juan Soto saw his season-opening, 11-game on-base streak stopped.
After stranding seven runners in the first four innings, the Marlins put together a rally in the fifth.
Stowers opened with a single to left and on a ground ball by Bride, Baty attempted to get the forceout at second base, but his throw sailed over Lindor. On the next pitch, Mervis singled to center and Stowers easily scored.
After New York reliever Max Kranick got two outs, Fortes made it 2-0 by hitting a bloop single to left field.
