Preview and Prediction

The Yankees are enduring freezing conditions, and their offense mirrored the chilly weather for four games until Saturday.

Following a strong showing in one of their early games, the Yankees are looking to continue their offensive success on Sunday afternoon as they face the San Francisco Giants in slightly improved weather. The game-time temperature is expected to be around 50 degrees.

After playing in frigid weather during three afternoon games against the Detroit Tigers, the Yankees returned home to face the Giants in rainy conditions for the first two games. They suffered a 9-1 loss on Friday in a rain-shortened game with a game-time temperature of 44 degrees, and then bounced back with an 8-4 win on Saturday in light rain and a game-time temperature of 41 degrees.

Cody Bellinger, who was struggling with a 3-for-21 slump, broke out of it on Saturday with an RBI triple in the first inning and a tiebreaking RBI single in the fifth. Jasson Dominguez also ended a 0-for-15 slump with a two-run single in the fifth, as the Yankees finished with 11 hits, their sixth game with at least 10 hits this season.

"We did a fantastic job of coming out strong and putting pressure on the Giants," said Bellinger.

Paul Goldschmidt added an RBI double and Ben Rice hit a home run while reaching base three times. Rice has been hitting .333 in the five games he has played as the leadoff hitter.

"It's great," said Rice. "I think that's how our lineup works. It's contagious."

The Giants struggled on both offense and defense, allowing their second-highest run total of the season and striking out 12 times. It was their sixth game with at least 10 strikeouts this season, and Mike Yastrzemski struck out three times in his second game as the leadoff hitter.

Wilmer Flores continued his hot streak at the plate, driving in all four runs for the Giants with a two-run homer and a two-run double. He currently has 19 RBIs and a .302 average through the first 14 games of the season.

"He's really using his lower body," said Giants manager Bob Melvin of Flores, who was limited to 71 games in 2024 due to a knee injury. "Last year with his knee issue, he couldn't drive the ball.

"He's a different player right now. He's always been a clutch hitter, and he's had some huge hits for us this year."

Logan Webb (1-0, 1.89 ERA) will make his 150th career appearance for the Giants after completing seven innings in each of his last two starts. Webb has completed seven innings 17 times since the start of last season and struck out 10 batters in his last start against the Cincinnati Reds, though he ultimately took a no-decision in the 2-0 loss.

Webb has allowed three runs or fewer in every start this season and in 12 of his last 14 starts since July 25.

In his two career starts against the Yankees, Webb has a record of 0-2 with a 5.54 ERA. He allowed four runs in seven innings last June 1 in San Francisco and four runs in six innings on March 30, 2023, in New York, where he also struck out 12 batters.

Carlos Rodon (1-2, 5.19 ERA) will be on the mound for the Yankees, coming off of two rough outings where he allowed a total of nine runs. In his last start against the Detroit Tigers, Rodon gave up six runs (five earned) on four hits in six innings, including a three-run homer in the third.

Rodon spent his entire career with the Giants before signing with the Yankees after the 2022 season. He has never faced the Giants before, and the only hitters on their roster who have faced him are Willy Adames (3-for-14) and Matt Chapman (0-for-3).

San Francisco Giants vs. New York Yankees Recap APR 13TH 2025

Jung Hoo Lee hit two homers and drove in four runs as the visiting San Francisco Giants came back to earn a 5-4 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday afternoon.

Lee continued his hot start and helped the Giants win a series in New York against the Yankees for the first time in team history by getting his first career multi-homer game and hitting three homers in the series.

The Giants continued their hot start by improving to 11-4 and won for the 10th time in 13 games.

After San Francisco's Logan Webb allowed three early runs, Lee hammered a full-count slider from New York starter Carlos Rodon into the right-center field seats with one out in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Following an infield hit by rookie Christian Koss and a one-out walk to Adames in the sixth, Lee lifted a 2-2 curveball into the right-center field seats to give the Giants a 4-3 lead.

The Giants added another run in the seventh when Casey Schmitt scored on a fielding error by first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.

Webb settled down after the rocky beginning and allowed three runs on five hits in five innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked four and has allowed five homers this season.

Goldschmidt hit an RBI single with two outs in the first off Webb after Aaron Judge hit a booming double to center field.

J.C Escarra had an RBI double and Ben Rice added a run-scoring single in the second as the Yankees took a 3-0 lead.

Jazz Chisholm Jr homered in the eighth to get New York within 5-4 after being hitless in his previous 24 at-bats.

Rodon allowed four runs on three hits in 5 2/3 innings. The left-hander struck out eight and walked three.

Hayden Birdsong followed Webb and pitched two innings. Tyler Rogers ended the eighth with three groundouts after Chisholm homered and Ryan Walker fanned Judge in a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save.
