"Resilient Sergio Perez of Red Bull assures fans: 'I'll be back in F1 next season'"
The head of Red Bull, Christian Horner, suggested that Sergio Perez's position on the team may be uncertain, but the Mexican driver remains confident that he will continue racing next year.
Following Perez's last-place finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, Horner told reporters, "As a team, it is important for us to have both cars scoring points. That is the nature of Formula One. We have done everything we can to support Checo, and we will continue to do so at the Brazil Grand Prix next weekend. However, there comes a point where you can only do so much."
When asked about Horner's comments, Perez seemed to dismiss them, stating, "It's just rumors at the end of the day. You will see me in Vegas, you will see me next year. I am not worried about it."
The 34-year-old Perez was also asked about comments from team advisor Helmut Marko that raised doubts about his future with Red Bull.
"Well, I know that I will be here. That is all I can say," Perez responded.
Perez is looking forward to this weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix and putting his disastrous home race in Mexico City behind him.
"What happened is in the past. We are moving on and taking those first 10 laps as a lesson. We have identified the issues we had in qualifying and tried to fix them for Sunday. I think we made progress in the right direction, so that is definitely promising," he said.
