McLaren Appoints IndyCar Icon as Team Leader
McLaren announced on Friday that they have appointed the renowned racer Tony Kanaan as the team principal for their IndyCar division.
Kanaan, who is 50 years old, had previously served as the team's deputy boss and special advisor since the end of the 2024 season.
In addition, McLaren also named Kevin Thimjon as their new president on the same day.
Kanaan, a 16-time winner and former Indy 500 champion, expressed his excitement for his new role, stating that he has embraced every opportunity to grow with the team. He also welcomed Thimjon, who will handle the business side of the team, and believes that their partnership will make the team stronger.
The Brazilian-born Kanaan, who won the IndyCar Series championship in 2004 and the Indianapolis 500 in 2013, will be joined by Thimjon, who previously worked with Core BTS, Lids Sports Group, and Just Marketing International.
McLaren's drivers Pato O'Ward, Nolan Siegel, and Christian Lundgaard will kick off the 2025 IndyCar Series season on March 2 at the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Grand Prix.
