Liam Lawson Reflects on Red Bull's Demotion: 'It's Challenging'
Liam Lawson shared a heartfelt message on social media after being demoted from Red Bull Racing.
On Thursday, Red Bull announced that Yuki Tsunoda will take over Lawson's spot at the Japanese Grand Prix and beyond. This decision was made after Lawson struggled during the Australian and Chinese Grand Prix races.
In an emotional Instagram post, Lawson wrote, "Becoming a (Red Bull Racing) driver has been my lifelong dream. It's been my goal since I was a child." He also included photos from his school days.
"It's a difficult situation, but I am grateful for everything that has led me to this point," Lawson continued.
He also expressed his gratitude to those who have supported him throughout his journey.
Lawson, who is 23 years old, was chosen by Red Bull team principal and CEO Christian Horner in December to replace Sergio Perez. Other contenders for the spot included Yuki Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar.
Despite being a part of the Red Bull junior team since 2019 and taking over Daniel Ricciardo's seat last season, Lawson has struggled to keep up with the pace in the RB21 car. He has yet to score any points for the team, with a DNF in Australia and a P12 finish in China. He was also the slowest car on the grid during qualifying sessions in China.
