Lando Norris: Max Verstappen's Inner Knowledge of His Wrongdoing
Lando Norris believes his adversary Max Verstappen, the three-time reigning Formula 1 champion, acknowledges that he was at fault during their altercation at the Mexico Grand Prix.
Verstappen was given two 10-second penalties for his aggressive driving against Norris, who is currently his closest competitor in the drivers' standings, at the race in Mexico City on Sunday.
During the 10th lap, Norris had to avoid two near-collisions with Verstappen, first when Verstappen pushed him off the track at Turn 4 and again at Turn 7 when both drivers ended up running off the road as Verstappen overtook Norris.
"We have not spoken and I do not believe it is necessary," Norris stated on Thursday. "I have nothing to say.
"I still hold a great deal of admiration for Max and everything he does - not for what he did last weekend, but for him as a person and for his accomplishments. However, it is not my place to speak to him. I am not his instructor or mentor."
"Max knows what he needs to do. Deep down, he knows he was in the wrong. It is up to him to make a change, not me."
Norris, 24, finished second to Carlos Sainz in Mexico City and reduced Verstappen's lead in the standings by 10 points to 47. There are only four races remaining in Sao Paulo, Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
McLaren's Norris and Red Bull Racing's Verstappen have had multiple incidents this year. They collided during the Austrian Grand Prix, and at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, just before the Mexico race, Norris received a time penalty for overtaking Verstappen while off the track.
"Max is probably one of the most skilled drivers on the grid, if not the most," Norris remarked. "He knows his capabilities and limitations, and where the boundaries lie. Therefore, he knows what changes he needs to make."
