"Carlos Sainz assumes role as director of F1 driver's association"
Carlos Sainz was appointed as a director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, the union for Formula One drivers.
The announcement of his appointment was made on Sunday.
The Spaniard has taken over the position from four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who retired from F1 at the end of 2022.
In a post on the association's Instagram page, Sainz stated, "I am deeply passionate about my sport and believe that as drivers, we have a responsibility to work with stakeholders to advance the sport in various aspects. Therefore, I am extremely happy and proud to take on the role of director at the GPDA."
At the age of 30, Sainz joined Williams after giving up his spot at Ferrari to seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Sainz will be joining GPDA chairman Alex Wurz, Mercedes driver George Russell, and legal adviser Anastasia Fowle on the board.
Wurz expressed his delight at Sainz's appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to have Carlos as a GPDA director. He has been an active and dedicated member of the GPDA for several years, and we truly appreciate his commitment in taking on this crucial role."
