According to reports, the New York Rangers are currently negotiating a profitable and lengthy contract extension for forward Alexis Lafreniere.

The reported deal is expected to span eight years and exceed $8 million annually, as stated in a report from DailyFaceoff.com.

Lafreniere, who just turned 23 on Friday, began the season with a goal and an assist in the Rangers' 6-0 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.

Selected as the first overall pick by the Rangers in 2020, Lafreniere has accumulated 150 points (76 goals, 74 assists) in 299 games since his debut in January 2021.

He previously signed a two-year contract worth $4.65 million in August 2023 and is expected to become a restricted free agent after the current season.
