'Sidney Crosby Achieves Record-Breaking Point-Per-Game Ratio in NHL'
In Thursday night's game against the Buffalo Sabres, Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins scored a goal in the first period, marking his 80th point of the season. This achievement solidified his 20th consecutive season averaging a point per game, surpassing the record he previously shared with the legendary Wayne Gretzky.
Despite being down 2-0 halfway through the first period, the 37-year-old center managed to score a goal with the help of Rickard Rakell and Matt Grzelcyk. This goal secured Crosby's point-per-game scoring rate for the season, with a maximum of 80 games played.
Crosby has played in 72 games this season, only missing two due to injury. The Penguins (29-33-11, 69 points) have eight games remaining.
Gretzky now holds second place with 19 point-per-game seasons, while Gordie Howe follows in third with 17 such seasons.
