'Sidney Crosby (1,600 points) and Evgeni Malkin (500 goals) Reach Career Milestones'
With his contribution to Bryan Rust's first-period score against the visiting Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday, Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby became one of only ten players in NHL history to reach the 1,600-point milestone.
At 37 years old, Crosby accomplished this feat in his 1,277th game and has a total of 592 goals and 1,008 assists, ranking him tenth on the league's all-time scoring list.
With just eight more goals, Crosby, a three-time Stanley Cup champion and eight-time All-Star, will join an exclusive group of players with at least 600 goals and 1,000 assists.
In his 20th season since being selected as the No. 1 overall pick by Pittsburgh in 2005, the long-standing Penguins captain has recorded four assists in five games this season.
Crosby's teammate since 2005-06, Evgeni Malkin, entered Wednesday's game just one goal shy of reaching 500. Once he scores his next goal, the 38-year-old Russian native will become the 48th player in NHL history to reach this milestone. Malkin, who also assisted on Rust's goal, has a total of 1,304 points (499 goals, 805 assists) in 1,150 games.
In his 19th season since being drafted as the No. 2 overall pick by the Penguins in 2004, Malkin has recorded one goal and seven points in five games this season.
