Sibling of Gaudreau siblings postpones marriage following their passing
The sibling of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau has rescheduled her marriage date.
The ice hockey-playing brothers were tragically killed the evening before Katie Gaudreau's original Aug. 30 wedding date when they were struck by a suspected intoxicated driver while out for a bike ride near their family's residence in New Jersey.
The brothers were teammates at Boston College, with Johnny later moving on to play for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Katie and her fiance Devin Joyce have now set a new wedding date of July 11, 2025, in Philadelphia, as stated on their wedding registry.
Following the passing of Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, the wedding was put on hold. Both men were set to be groomsmen.
\"That day,\" Katie shared on Instagram on Sept. 5.
\"Right in the midst of preparing for the happiest day of my life, the unimaginable occurred, forever altering my life. I remember sitting in the hotel with my family just a week ago, texting Devin about how we forgot to practice our dip. It's surreal to think that was our biggest concern at the time, when in a split second and a phone call later, our lives would be forever changed.\"
In September, a judge in Salem County, N.J., ruled that Sean M. Higgins, the individual accused of causing the brothers' deaths, will remain in custody until his trial. Higgins has been charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide.
