On Monday, the Edmonton Oilers traded their 2021 first-round draft pick Xavier Bourgault and fellow forward Jake Chiasson to the Ottawa Senators. In return, they received forward Roby Jarventie and a 2025 fourth-round draft pick.

Bourgault, who was selected No. 22 in the draft, has not lived up to expectations. He battled a shoulder injury last season while playing 55 games for the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL, recording 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists). This was a decrease from his previous season where he had 34 points in 62 games.

Despite being 21 years old, Bourgault has yet to play in an NHL game.

Chiasson, also 21, was Edmonton's fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft. He played in 68 games for the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL last season, scoring 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists).

Jarventie, a 21-year-old prospect from Finland, was selected by the Senators in the second round (No. 33 overall) of the 2020 draft. He appeared in seven games for Ottawa, recording one assist. However, his season was cut short due to a knee injury. He also played in 22 games for the Belleville Senators of the AHL, contributing 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists).
