Roope Hintz netted two goals as the Dallas Stars defeated the visiting Capitals 3-1 on Monday night, putting an end to Washington's record-breaking 10-game road winning streak.
Lian Bichsel also found the back of the net for the Stars, who have won three of their last four games during their six-game homestand. They now hold a 13-3-0 record at home this season. Jason Robertson contributed with two assists while Jake Oettinger made 25 saves.
Dylan Strome scored the lone goal for the Capitals, who had won four consecutive games and earned points in nine straight (8-0-1), the longest point streak in the NHL this season. Charlie Lindgren made 21 saves.
The Capitals fell just two wins short of tying the NHL record for most consecutive road wins, which is shared by the 2005-06 Detroit Red Wings and the 2014-15 Minnesota Wild.
Canucks 3, Avalanche 1
Kiefer Sherwood recorded a natural hat trick and Thatcher Demko made 30 saves in Vancouver's victory over the visiting Colorado Avalanche. This was Sherwood's first hat trick in his seven seasons in the NHL.
Sherwood now has 11 goals in 30 games with Vancouver, surpassing his previous career-best of 10 goals in 68 games with the Nashville Predators last season. The Canucks finished their six-game homestand with a 3-2-1 record.
Demko stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced, only allowing a goal from Valeri Nichushkin with 46 seconds remaining in the third period. Mackenzie Blackwood made 22 saves for the Avalanche, who have a 1-2-0 record in their last three games.
Panthers 6, Oilers 5
Carter Verhaeghe scored the game-winning goal in the third period and also had an assist for the Florida Panthers, who bounced back for a win in a back-and-forth game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Sam Reinhart and Niko Mikkola also contributed with a goal and an assist each for the Panthers, who had been shut out in their last two games. Matthew Tkachuk, Gustav Forsling, and Jesper Boqvist also scored for Florida, while Anton Lundell recorded two assists and Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves.
Zach Hyman scored twice and Connor McDavid had three assists for the Oilers, whose five-game winning streak came to an end. Leon Draisaitl had a goal and an assist, while Kasperi Kapanen and Connor Brown also scored. Stuart Skinner made 22 saves for Edmonton.
