Recap of NHL action: Sidney Crosby leads Penguins to victory over Ducks in overtime
Sidney Crosby netted his second goal of the match in overtime at 2:35, securing a 2-1 victory for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.
Crosby maneuvered towards the front of the net and patiently outwaited goalie Lukas Dostal before lifting the puck high into the net for his third goal of the season. This was his second overtime winner of the season, with the first being on Oct. 16 against the Buffalo Saves.
Alex Nedeljkovic made 22 saves for the Penguins, who snapped a six-game losing streak (0-5-1).
Alex Killorn scored for the Ducks and Dostal made 44 saves. The Ducks finished their four-game road trip with a record of 1-2-1.
Capitals 6, Canadiens 3
Connor McMichael and Aliaksei Protas scored within 36 seconds of each other in the third period, leading the Washington Capitals to a victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
Washington's captain, Alex Ovechkin, scored his third goal in two games, bringing his career tally to 858. Ovechkin also had two assists, putting him 37 goals away from surpassing Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history.
The Canadiens' Cole Caufield extended his goal-scoring streak to four games, bringing his season total to 10 goals. Captain Nick Suzuki also scored and had an assist, while Brendan Gallagher and Lane Hutson each had two assists. Cayden Primeau made 28 saves for Montreal, who have lost six of their last eight games (2-5-1).
Oilers 5, Predators 1
Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a solid victory over the Nashville Predators in their first game without injured superstar Connor McDavid.
Former Predator Viktor Arvidsson, Corey Perry, and Zach Hyman also scored for the Oilers, while Calvin Pickard made 26 saves. Edmonton has won three of their last four games.
Filip Forsberg scored the only goal for the Predators, who have lost their last two games after winning three in a row. Nashville goalie, Juuse Saros, made 26 saves.
Flyers 2, Blues 1
Bobby Brink scored the game-winning goal with 3:01 remaining, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Samuel Ersson made 20 saves for the Flyers, who have won back-to-back games for the first time this season. Philadelphia is now 3-1-0 in their last four games after a six-game losing streak (0-5-1).
Nathan Walker scored for the Blues, who ended their four-game road trip with a disappointing loss. St. Louis began the trip with a 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs but lost their last three games by a combined margin of 15-4.
Maple Leafs 4, Kraken 1
William Nylander scored two goals to help the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the Seattle Kraken.
Auston Matthews added a goal and an assist, while Matthew Knies also scored for the Maple Leafs. John Tavares had two assists.
Eeli Tolvanen scored the only goal for the Kraken. Goalie Joey Daccord made 26 saves for Seattle, who are now 1-1-0 on their five-game road trip.
Hurricanes 8, Bruins 2
Andrei Svechnikov and Jack Roslovic each scored two goals, leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a dominant victory over the Boston Bruins in Raleigh, N.C.
Martin Necas had one goal and three assists, while Jackson Blake, Sean Walker, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also scored for the Hurricanes. This was Carolina's highest-scoring game of the season so far.
Brad Marchand and Hampus Lindholm scored for the Bruins, who have only won one of their last six games (1-4-1). Boston goalie, Jeremy Swayman, allowed six goals on 22 shots before being replaced by Joonas Korpisalo, who made 13 saves.
