"Recap of NHL Action: Knights Stage Comeback, Upset Connor McDavid's Comeback"
Vegas' Noah Hanifin scored two goals in the third period, including the game-winning goal in the final minute, as the Golden Knights secured their first road victory of the season with a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Connor McDavid's return.
Hanifin, who had a three-point performance in Saturday's 4-3 win against the Utah Hockey Club, tied the game 2-2 in the third period with a long shot that made its way through a screen at 10:05. The defenseman then scored the winning goal from the left circle off a pass from Ivan Barbashev with only 49 seconds remaining, giving the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead.
Mark Stone sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with four seconds left, securing Vegas' sixth win in their last seven games (6-1-0) and improving their record to 8-1-0 against Western Conference opponents. Jack Eichel contributed a goal and two assists, while Barbashev had three assists. Goaltender Adin Hill made 27 saves.
After missing three games due to an ankle injury suffered on October 28, McDavid was expected to be out for two to three weeks. However, the three-time Hart Trophy winner returned to the ice on Monday and played on Wednesday, recording two shots on goal in 21:02 of ice time. Brett Kulak and Zach Hyman scored for Edmonton, who now have a 2-5-1 record at home.
Capitals 3, Predators 2
Alex Ovechkin extended his goal streak to five games and also added an assist as the Washington Capitals came from behind to defeat the Nashville Predators at home.
Ovechkin scored the go-ahead goal at 10:25 of the third period with a quick shot from the right circle off a pass from Dylan Strome, beating Nashville goaltender Jusse Saros on the far side. Ovechkin became the third player in NHL history to have a five-game goal streak at the age of 39 or older, joining Brett Hull and Johnny Bucyk.
Strome had two assists and Logan Thompson made 33 saves for the Capitals, who have now won seven consecutive home games. Juuso Parssinen and Steven Stamkos scored for the Predators, who have lost four of their last five games. Saros made 33 saves.
Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 1
Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat each recorded a goal and an assist, while Cam Talbot made 28 saves to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Detroit, who have now won two games in a row after a three-game losing streak, relied on a consistent offense and strong goaltending from Talbot to end Chicago's two-game winning streak. Joe Veleno and Andrew Copp also scored for the Red Wings.
Petr Mrazek stopped 21 shots for the Blackhawks, who outshot the Red Wings 29-25. Nick Foligno scored the lone goal for Chicago.
