Experienced defenseman Torey Krug is at risk of being absent for the 2024-25 season after being diagnosed with pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle, as announced by the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

The Blues have deemed Krug as out indefinitely and will reassess his condition after six to eight weeks of rehabilitation to determine if surgery is necessary. In the event that Krug does require surgery, he will be unable to play for the entire season.

According to the Blues, the pre-arthritic changes are a result of a previous bone fracture that Krug sustained earlier in his career.

At 33 years old, Krug has dealt with injuries in each of his first four seasons with the Blues, but managed to play in 77 out of 82 games last season. He recorded 39 points (four goals, 35 assists) and a career-low minus-31 rating.

Throughout his 13-year career with the Boston Bruins (2011-20) and Blues, Krug has appeared in 778 games, tallying 89 goals and 394 assists (483 points), 832 blocked shots, and 621 hits. He is currently in the fifth year of a seven-year, $45.5 million contract that he signed before the 2020-21 season.
