Jiri Kulich netted two goals for the Buffalo Sabres in a 7-3 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, ruining a record-breaking night for Penguins star Sidney Crosby.
Tage Thompson, Peyton Krebs, Tyson Kozak, and Alex Tuch each contributed a goal and an assist for Buffalo. Defensemen Bowen Byram and Rasmus Dahlin both had two assists, and James Reimer made 23 saves for the Sabres, who have won five of their last seven games.
Crosby scored to set a new NHL record with his 20th season averaging at least one point per game, surpassing Wayne Gretzky. Blake Lizotte and Kevin Hayes also scored for the Penguins, who have now lost three consecutive games.
Tristan Jarry stopped eight of 12 shots for Pittsburgh before being replaced by Alex Nedeljkovic, who finished with 15 saves.

Frederick Gaudreau scored two goals to lead the Minnesota Wild to a rare home victory over the Washington Capitals.
Matt Boldy also had a goal and an assist for the Wild, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Jon Merrill added a goal and Matt Roy and Brandon Duhaime each scored one goal for Washington, who lost in regulation for only the second time in their last 12 games.
Alex Ovechkin had three shots on goal in 19:03 of ice time for the Capitals, but was unable to find the back of the net. Ovechkin remains at 889 career goals, just five shy of tying Wayne Gretzky's all-time record.

A quartet of Stars players recorded a goal and an assist each to lead Dallas to a victory over the Calgary Flames.
Matt Duchene, Mikael Granlund, Roope Hintz, and Mikko Rantanen all found the back of the net for the Stars, who are currently on a four-game winning streak and sit just four points behind the Winnipeg Jets for first place in the Central Division. Wyatt Johnston also scored for Dallas, and Casey DeSmith made 46 saves.
Nazem Kadri scored both goals for the Flames, who had their own four-game winning streak snapped. Dustin Wolf made 14 saves for Calgary.
Flyers 6, Canadiens 4
Hours after firing their head coach, the Philadelphia Flyers received two goals each from Sean Couturier and Matvei Michkov in a home victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
After a six-game losing streak, the Flyers parted ways with John Tortorella earlier on Thursday. Brad Shaw took over as interim head coach and the team delivered an inspired effort in his debut.
Couturier and Michkov each added an assist, while Tyson Foerster and Nicolas Deslauriers also scored for Philadelphia. Samuel Ersson made 26 saves, sending Montreal to their fourth straight defeat. Alex Newhook, Cole Caufield, Christian Dvorak, and Patrik Laine all scored for the Canadiens, while Jakub Dobes made 24 saves.
Senators 4, Red Wings 3
The Ottawa Senators built up a three-goal lead and held off a late rally by the Detroit Red Wings to secure a victory on the road.
Thomas Chabot, Tim Stutzle, David Perron, and Michael Amadio all scored for the Senators, who currently lead the Eastern Conference wild-card race and won the season series against the Red Wings 3-1. Linus Ullmark made 31 saves for Ottawa.
Lucas Raymond had a goal and an assist for Detroit, while Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko also scored. Alex Lyon and Cam Talbot combined for 28 saves for the Red Wings.
Lightning 8, Utah Hockey Club 0
Jake Guentzel scored twice and goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy tied for the league lead with his sixth shutout as the Tampa Bay Lightning dominated the Utah Hockey Club.
Guentzel broke a tie with Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl for the NHL lead in power-play goals with his 16th of the season in a four-goal second period. Nikita Kucherov also had a goal and three assists for the Lightning, while Brayden Point scored his 300th career goal and added an assist. Oliver Bjorkstrand scored twice and
