'Penalty Issued to Jonatan Berggren of the Red Wings for Cross-Checking'
NHL has fined Jonatan Berggren, a forward for the Detroit Red Wings, $2,148.44 for cross-checking Connor Dewar, a forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, during their game on Saturday.
The league's collective bargaining agreement states that this is the maximum fine that can be imposed, and it was announced on Sunday.
The incident took place in the second period of Detroit's 4-2 win, when Dewar made a slight shoulder check on Berggren. In response, Berggren struck Dewar in the head and was given a minor penalty for cross-checking.
Berggren, who is 24 years old, has recorded six points (four goals, two assists) in 30 games so far this season.
Since being drafted by Detroit in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft, the Swedish player has accumulated a total of 40 points (21 goals, 19 assists) in 109 career games.
