Sam Reinhart tallied one goal and provided two assists as the Florida Panthers triumphed over the Blue Jackets 4-3 in a highly charged home opener for Columbus on Tuesday evening.

Anton Lundell, Dmitry Kulikov, and Eetu Luostarinen also found the back of the net for Florida, while Spencer Knight made 35 saves to secure his first NHL victory since January 3, 2023. Columbus managed to score three goals thanks to Cole Sillinger, Sean Monahan, and James van Riemsdyk.

The game commenced with 19:47 remaining in the first period, with those 13 seconds serving as a tribute to Johnny Gaudreau. Gaudreau wore the number 13 jersey during his impressive NHL career with the Calgary Flames and later with Columbus.

Tragically, Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed by a suspected drunk driver on August 29. In honor of Gaudreau, the Blue Jackets raised his No. 13 jersey to the rafters while fans chanted "Johnny Hockey!"

In other NHL action, the Stars defeated the Sharks 3-2 in a shootout. Matt Duchene scored both in regulation and in the shootout to lead Dallas to victory over San Jose.

The Flames also extended their winning streak to four games, tying a franchise record, with a 3-1 win over the Blackhawks. Matt Coronato netted two goals and Andrei Kuzmenko added a power-play goal for Calgary, while Dustin Wolf made 31 saves. Nick Foligno scored the lone goal for Chicago, and Petr Mrazek made 23 saves.

Brayden Point's goal proved to be the game-winner as the Lightning defeated the Canucks 4-1 in their home opener. Point also added an assist, while Anthony Cirelli and Brandon Hagel each contributed a goal and an assist. Nikita Kucherov also scored for Tampa Bay, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 26 saves. Conor Garland scored the lone goal for Vancouver, and Arturs Silovs stopped 24 shots.

Alex Ovechkin reached a career milestone, recording his 700th assist as the Capitals defeated the Golden Knights 4-2. Ovechkin assisted on goals by Tom Wilson and Aliaksei Protas, bringing his career total to 700 assists to go along with his 853 goals for Washington. Victor Olofsson and Jack Eichel scored for Vegas, and Mark Stone recorded two assists. Adin Hill made 18 saves for the Golden Knights.

The Hurricanes secured their first win of the season, defeating the Devils 4-2. Rookie Jackson Blake scored his first NHL goal, while Seth Jarvis and Shayne Gostisbehere also found the back of the net for Carolina. Sebastian Aho added an empty-net goal. Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier scored for New Jersey.

Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves and scored an empty-net goal as the Wild spoiled the Blues' home opener with a 4-1 victory. Ryan Hartman, Jakub Lauko, and Marco Rossi also scored for Minnesota, while Kirill Kaprizov recorded two assists. Mathieu Joseph scored the lone goal for St. Louis.

The Kraken dominated the Predators with a 7-3 win, thanks to goals from Jaden Schwartz, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jared McCann, and Adam Larsson. Ryker Evans, Brandon Tanev, and Jordan Eberle also scored for Seattle, while Chandler Stephenson and Jamie Oleksiak each had two assists. Michael McCarron, Tommy Novak, and Brady Skjei scored for Nashville.
