"Oilers' Darnell Nurse (concussion) sidelined for 5-10 days following collision"
Edmonton Oilers defender Darnell Nurse will be out of commission for five to 10 days after being struck in the head by a shot from Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves during the weekend.
\"There was definitely a big scare there ... but since then, he\'s been making good progress and is doing as well as can be expected,\" Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch stated to reporters on Monday.
Reaves collided with Nurse using his shoulder as the latter was trying to skate out from behind the net in the second period of the Leafs' 4-3 overtime victory over the Oilers on Saturday. Nurse was bleeding after the incident and did not return to the game.
Reaves was given a five-minute major penalty for an illegal hit to the head and was ejected from the game. He was suspended for five games by the NHL on Sunday.
Nurse, who is 29 years old, has accumulated nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 18 games this season.
In his 11th season in the NHL, all with the Oilers, Nurse has recorded 276 points (78 goals, 198 assists) and has a plus-69 rating. The Oilers drafted him seventh overall in the 2013 draft.
