"Monarchs' Star Drew Doughty Set to Return in Season Opener Against Panthers"
The Los Angeles Kings' defenseman Drew Doughty will be making his first appearance of the season in Wednesday's away game against the Florida Panthers.
Doughty, who is 35 years old, underwent surgery in early October to fix a fractured left ankle. The injury occurred during a preseason match against the Vegas Golden Knights on September 25th.
This will be Doughty's 17th season with the Kings. He was awarded the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman in 2015-16 and played a crucial role in the team's Stanley Cup victories in 2012 and 2014.
The five-time All-Star played in all 82 games last season, marking the seventh time he has achieved this milestone. He ended the season with 50 points (15 goals, 35 assists).
Since being selected as the second overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft by the Kings, Doughty has accumulated 669 points (156 goals, 513 assists) in 1,177 career games.
