San Jose Sharks newcomer Macklin Celebrini, the top selection in the 2024 NHL Draft, will be absent for a minimum of two additional weeks due to a lower-body injury.

On Monday, general manager Mike Grier provided the updated timeline for the 18-year-old rookie. Celebrini has been out of action since recording a goal and an assist in the season opener against the St. Louis Blues on October 10th.

Celebrini's goal just 7:01 into the game was the second-fastest in history for a No. 1 pick making their NHL debut, only surpassed by Mario Lemieux's goal 2:59 into his first game with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1984.

During his one-year tenure at Boston University, Celebrini was the recipient of the 2023-24 Hobey Baker Award. He aided the Terriers in reaching the NCAA Frozen Four and concluded the season with 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists) in 38 games.
