'Logan Thompson, Goalie for Capitals, Inks 6-Year Deal Worth $35.1M'

'Goaltender Logan Thompson of Capitals agrees to 6-year, $35.1 million contract extension'

The Washington Capitals and netminder Logan Thompson have reached an agreement on a six-year contract extension worth $35.1 million on Monday.

The deal, with an average annual value of $5.85 million, comes in the midst of Thompson's impressive debut season with Washington. Last June, he was traded from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for two third-round draft picks.

At 27 years old, Thompson has recorded a 22-2-3 record in 27 games (26 starts) for the Capitals. He currently ranks second in the NHL for goals-against average (2.09) and third for save percentage (.925), contributing to Washington's league-leading scoring defense (2.37 goals allowed per game).

Thompson was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, but will now remain with the Capitals through 2030-31.

\"We are delighted to sign Logan to a multi-year contract,\" stated Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of the Capitals. \"Logan has proven himself to be one of the top goaltenders in the NHL this season and since he entered the League. With his size and exceptional athleticism, we have full confidence that this signing will strengthen one of the most crucial positions on our team, especially as he enters the prime years of his career.\"

In a total of 130 NHL games between Vegas (2020-24) and Washington, the former undrafted free agent has achieved a record of 78-34-14 with a 2.55 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
