"Kraken Trade for F Kaapo Kakko from Rangers in Exchange for D Will Borgen and Draft Selections"

On Wednesday, the New York Rangers traded forward Kaapo Kakko, a former second overall draft pick, to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for defenseman Will Borgen and two draft picks in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Kakko, who is 23 years old, has recorded four goals, 10 assists, and 14 penalty minutes in 30 games this season. He also has a plus-9 rating and averages 13:17 minutes of ice time. However, he was a healthy scratch in the Rangers' 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Sunday, but returned to the lineup for their 3-0 defeat to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

The Rangers originally drafted Kakko, who is from Finland, with the second overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. Since then, he has accumulated 61 goals, 70 assists, and 80 penalty minutes in 330 regular-season games.

In his playoff career, Kakko has recorded nine points (four goals, five assists) in 44 games with a minus-3 rating.

Borgen, who will turn 28 on Thursday, has one goal, one assist, and nine penalty minutes in 33 games this season. He also has 48 hits and 37 blocked shots.

The Buffalo Sabres originally selected Borgen in the fourth round of the 2015 draft. He has played for both the Sabres (14 games in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons) and the Kraken, who selected him in the 2021 expansion draft.

In his career, Borgen has recorded nine goals, 46 assists, and 153 penalty minutes in 247 regular-season games. He also has 577 hits and 287 blocked shots.
