Injury Forces Mathew Barzal of Islanders to Leave Road Trip
The New York Islanders' top player, Mathew Barzal, left the team's trip early due to an injury to his upper body.
On Friday, the Islanders announced that Barzal had returned to Long Island to see the team's doctors. A timeline for his recovery will be determined after the visit.
Barzal, who is 27 years old, played the most minutes out of all the Islanders' forwards in their 2-0 loss to Columbus on Wednesday night.
So far this season, Barzal has recorded two goals and three assists in 10 games. He has been with the Islanders for nine seasons.
The team's road trip will end with games against Buffalo on Friday and the New York Rangers on Sunday.
Since being drafted by the Islanders as the 16th overall pick in 2015, Barzal has accumulated 447 points (130 goals, 317 assists) in 510 games.
