Full Practice for Maple Leafs' Goalie Joseph Woll After Lower-Body Injury

Toronto Maple Leafs netminder Joseph Woll participated in a full practice on Friday for the first time since October 8 due to a lower-body injury.

Woll was absent for the team's first four games after experiencing what he described as "some tightness in the groin" the day before the season opener. Over the past four days, he has been skating before the main session and working with the goalie coach and skills coaches.

"Anytime you get injured, whether it's a major or minor injury, there's always that initial emotional response," Woll stated on Friday. "A bit of frustration, a bit of disappointment, and other things like that.

"I think it's important to acknowledge those feelings for a bit and then focus on what you can control and what you can do. So since then, I've been solely focused on doing everything in my power to get back to 100% as soon as possible and contribute to the team."

Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube has not set a specific date for Woll's return. Toronto (3-1-0) will face the New York Rangers (3-0-1) on Saturday.

"Hopefully sooner rather than later, but we're still taking it day by day," Berube commented. "We'll see where he's at after practice. I haven't spoken to him yet, so we'll figure it out."

Anthony Stolarz has been the primary goaltender in Woll's absence and has a record of 2-1-0 with a 1.70 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.

Woll, 26, ended the 2023-24 season with a record of 12-11-1, a 2.94 goals-against average, and a .907 save percentage.

Selected in the third round of the 2016 draft by Toronto, Woll has a career record of 21-13-1 with one shutout, a 2.76 goals-against average, and a .912 save percentage over three seasons with the Maple Leafs.

In July, Woll signed a three-year extension worth $10.98 million, which will take effect in the 2025-26 season. He is currently in the final year of a three-year contract that pays him $766,666 this season.
