Connor McDavid (lower-body injury) headed back to Edmonton
Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid will not finish Monday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets due to a lower-body injury he sustained in the first period.
McDavid fell after tripping while carrying the puck across the blue line, immediately following his victory in the opening faceoff. He then slid into the sideboards and down into the corner before getting up and leaving the ice under his own strength.
The Oilers later announced that he will not be returning for the remainder of the first period.
McDavid, 27, is a three-time winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy and has been selected to the All-Star team seven times. He has achieved at least 100 points in a season on seven occasions, with last season's total being 132 points (32 goals, 100 assists).
As of Monday, he had recorded three goals and seven assists in nine games this season.
