"Connor McDavid Celebrates Birthday with Game-Winning Goal in NHL Recap"
On Monday, the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Los Angeles Kings and came out on top with a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Connor McDavid and a shutout from Stuart Skinner.
McDavid, who was celebrating his 28th birthday, received assists from Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse on his goal.
Skinner stopped 30 shots to earn his second shutout of the season, while Darcy Kuemper made 29 saves for the Kings. This loss marks the first time in two months that the Kings have lost back-to-back games in regulation.
In the second period, Draisaitl passed to Nurse, who was unable to score on his one-timer. However, McDavid was able to capitalize on the rebound and give the Oilers the lead at 18:37.
The Calgary Flames defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2, with Jakob Pelletier scoring two goals and an assist and Rory Kerins earning two assists in his NHL debut.
Goaltender Dustin Wolf made 23 saves for the Flames, who have now won three out of three games against the Blackhawks this season. Chicago has lost nine out of their last 11 games, with seven of those losses being by multiple goals.
Despite having the fewest first-period goals in the NHL this season, the Flames managed to score three goals in the first period against the Blackhawks.
The Philadelphia Flyers came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Florida Panthers 4-3, with Noah Cates scoring the game-winning goal with just 5:51 remaining.
Morgan Frost and Garnet Hathaway also scored for the Flyers, who have now won back-to-back games after losing four straight. Samuel Ersson made 20 saves for the Flyers.
