'Canucks Goalie Kevin Lankinen Signs 5-Year Contract Extension'
The Vancouver Canucks' goalie, Kevin Lankinen, inked a five-year, $22.5 million deal extension on Friday.
Lankinen, who is 29 years old, has stepped up in place of the injured Thatcher Demko. He has a record of 19-8-7 with four shutouts, a 2.53 goals-against average, and a .905 save percentage in 34 games (32 starts) this season.
This is a significant return on investment for Lankinen, who initially signed a one-year, $875,000 contract in September.
According to Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin, \"Kevin has been exceptional in the net for us this season. Right from the beginning, he has shown a strong desire to compete and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win games. He is a great leader and teammate, and we wouldn't be where we are now without his outstanding performance.\"
Lankinen, who was not drafted at the start of his career, has a record of 64-51-19 with seven shutouts, a 2.94 GAA, and a .905 save percentage in 146 games (133 starts) with the Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, and Canucks.
Recently, Lankinen represented his home country of Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
