Boone Jenner recorded a pair of goals and one assist, leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 7-6 shootout victory against the visiting Vancouver Canucks on Friday.
Kent Johnson scored the lone goal in the shootout, while Jenner has now scored four goals in his last three games for the Blue Jackets. Columbus has won two consecutive games after losing six in a row. Dante Fabbro contributed one goal and two assists, and Kirill Marchenko, Mathieu Olivier, and Denton Mateychuk each had one goal and one assist. Columbus' goalie Elvis Merzlikins made 31 saves.
Aatu Raty scored two goals for the Canucks, who had won two straight games. Brock Boeser added one goal and one assist, while Linus Karlsson and Tyler Myers also scored. Pius Suter and Kiefer Sherwood each had three assists, and Kevin Lankinen made 32 saves for Vancouver.
The Blue Jackets tied the game at 5-5 with 3:14 left in the third period when Marchenko's shot deflected off Jenner and into the net during a power play. With 2:52 remaining, Olivier scored from the slot to give Columbus a 6-5 lead, but Raty responded with a goal from the top of the crease off a pass from Dakota Joshua with 2:29 left.
In other NHL action on Friday, the Florida Panthers defeated the Utah Hockey Club 2-1 in overtime. Sam Bennett scored both goals for the Panthers, including the game-winner with just 42 seconds left in overtime.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 13 saves for Florida, while Sean Durzi scored the lone goal for Utah. Karel Vejmelka made 30 saves for the visiting team.
The Carolina Hurricanes also picked up a win, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-1. Jackson Blake had one goal and two assists for the Hurricanes, while Taylor Hall and Sebastian Aho each scored a goal in the second period. Andrei Svechnikov added an empty-net goal, and Frederik Andersen made 14 saves for Carolina.
The Winnipeg Jets shut out the New Jersey Devils 4-0, with Alex Iafallo scoring two goals and Mark Scheifele adding one goal and one assist. Kyle Connor had two assists, and Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves for the Jets. Jake Allen stopped 15 shots for the Devils, who were missing Luke Hughes due to a lower-body injury.
The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3, with Pavel Dorofeyev scoring the game-winning goal on a power play with 3:11 left in the game.
