The Colorado Avalanche announced a five-year extension for goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood on Friday.

Terms were not disclosed but multiple reports pegged the deal at $5.25 million per season through 2029-30.

Acquired from the San Jose Sharks on his 28th birthday on Dec. 9, Blackwood is 3-1-0 with a 2.03 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage since joining the Avalanche.

"When we acquired Mackenzie a few weeks ago, we wanted to let him get to Denver, get acclimated to his new team, new city and then in due time we'd reach out to him and his representatives," Avs general manager Chris MacFarland said. "We are thrilled to get this deal done now.

"... As I said when we acquired him, we feel like Mackenzie has just gotten better and better every year and he has come in and done a great job with us in his first few starts. He's a big body, athletic goaltender who is still young and still growing as a goaltender. Stylistically, he has fit really well with how we play and has been a perfect fit in our dressing room as well."

Blackwood was 6-9-3 with a 3.00 GAA, a .909 save percentage and one shutout with the Sharks this season before the trade.

He is 84-92-25 with a 3.05 GAA, a .905 save percentage and 11 shutouts in 219 career games with the New Jersey Devils (2018-23), Sharks (2023-24) and Avalanche.

The Devils drafted the Thunder Bay, Ontario, native in the second round in 2015.
