"8-Game Suspension for Rangers Forward Matt Rempe due to Elbowing and Boarding Incident"
The NHL Department of Player Safety has offered New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe an in-person hearing and is considering disciplinary action for his actions during the team's 3-1 victory over Dallas on Friday.
An in-person hearing gives the NHL the authority to impose a suspension of six games or more.
The date and time of the hearing have not yet been determined.
During the third period of the game, Rempe was penalized for elbowing Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen in the head. Both Rempe and Stars center Roope Hintz received roughing penalties during the incident. Rempe was given a major penalty and a game misconduct.
This season, the 22-year-old Rempe has recorded no points, 24 penalty minutes, and 12 hits in five games. Standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing 255 pounds, he played in 17 games with New York last season, tallying one goal, one assist, 71 penalty minutes, and 50 hits.
In March, Rempe was suspended for four games by the NHL for elbowing New Jersey Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler in the head.
The Rangers drafted Rempe in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
