"Tiger and Charlie Woods Share Top Spot at PNC Championship"
Tiger Woods and his son Charlie are currently tied for first place at 13-under par after the first round of the PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
The Woods pair is in a three-way tie with Bernhard and Jason Langer, and Vijay and Qass Singh, all shooting a 59 in the scramble format. The tournament, which consists of 36 holes, will conclude on Sunday.
For Tiger Woods, sharing the lead in the final round of the tournament holds great significance, just as it does for his 15-year-old son. Woods, who will turn 49 this month, has only played a few events in a given PGA Tour season since a car accident in February 2021 nearly resulted in the loss of his right leg.
Saturday marked Woods' first competitive round since the Open Championship last July, where he failed to make the cut. He has since undergone another back surgery and chose not to participate in his foundation's event, the Hero World Challenge, earlier this month in the Bahamas.
The 15-time major champion admitted that there were moments when he doubted his ability to compete in this weekend's tournament.
Team Woods matched their second lowest round in the event, having shot a 57 in the final round in 2021. This is the duo's fifth appearance in the PNC Championship, with their best result being a runner-up finish in 2021.
Team Langer also matched their lowest round in the event, marking the fifth time they have shot a 59. Bernhard Langer is aiming for his sixth PNC Championship title, having won three times with son Jason and twice with son Stefan. He is currently tied for the all-time record in victories in the event with Raymond Floyd.
Team Singh also shot a 59, matching their lowest round in the event for the fourth time. The duo previously won the tournament title in 2022.
Team Lehman (Tom and Sean) and Team Harrington (Padraig and Paddy) are tied for fourth place at 12-under, one shot ahead of Team O'Meara (Mark and Shaun) and two shots ahead of Team Kuchar (Matt and Carson) and Team Annika (Annika Sorenstam and Will McGee).
