Team captain Mike Weir has chosen Shigeki Maruyama from Japan to be his final captain's assistant for the 2024 Presidents Cup.

The event will be held at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada from Sept. 24-29. Maruyama, who is 54 years old, joins previously announced assistants Ernie Els, Trevor Immelman, Geoff Ogilvy, and Camilo Villegas.

On Wednesday, Weir announced, "I am delighted to have Shigeki as my fifth captain's assistant for the 2024 Presidents Cup. His impressive record in this tournament speaks for itself, but more importantly, he brings a trusted voice to our team room and will inspire our 12 players with his unwavering support and dynamic personality."

Maruyama has participated in the Presidents Cup twice, in 1998 and 2000, with a record of 6-2-0. In 1998, he was undefeated with a record of 5-0-0 when the International team won their only title by defeating the United States in Australia with a score of 20.5 to 11.5. He is one of only six players in the history of the Presidents Cup to finish with a perfect 5-0-0 record for the week.

Maruyama stated, "Being a part of the International Team in the Presidents Cup as both a player in 1998 and 2000, and later as a captain's assistant in 2013, was one of the most valuable experiences of my golf career. I am honored that Captain Weir has given me the opportunity to be a part of this special brotherhood once again. I am excited for a fantastic week in Montreal and to help create an incredible atmosphere for our players and fans in Canada."

Maruyama has won three times on the PGA Tour from 2001-2003 and has 10 wins on the Japan Golf Tour from 1993-2009.

Out of the 14 biennial competitions, the U.S. has won 12 with one tie. The most recent Presidents Cup was held in 2022 at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C.
