Scottie Scheffler excited to come back from injury at Pebble Beach
Following an unexpected mishap in the kitchen, World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was unable to participate in the first few PGA Tour events of 2025. However, he is now set to make his return this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Scheffler, who had just recently won the Hero World Challenge in December, suffered a severe cut on his right hand while preparing Christmas dinner. This injury required surgery and forced him to miss The Sentry in Hawaii. He had initially planned to return at The American Express in La Quinta, Calif., earlier this month, but his hand was not yet fully healed.
While Scheffler appreciated the time off in some ways, he also found it frustrating. He told reporters on Tuesday that he enjoyed spending time at home with his wife and son, but it was difficult not being able to play golf.
Now, Scheffler is eager to continue his successful 2024 season, where he won his third consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year Award. He had notable victories at The Masters and The Players Championship, as well as an Olympic gold medal and the FedEx Cup title.
In preparation for his return, Scheffler has been practicing and playing practice rounds with his caddie, Ted Scott, at nearby Cypress Point. He joked that he was happy to beat his caddie in their practice round, as he didn't want to hear about it if he had lost.
When asked if he is concerned about the injury affecting his play, Scheffler confidently replied, "Not at all."
Scheffler will be aiming for his third consecutive win, as he ended 2024 with a victory at the Tour Championship in September and then won the unofficial Hero three months later.
Last year, Scheffler tied for sixth at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which was shortened to three rounds due to rain. He also missed the cut at Pebble Beach during the 2019 U.S. Open, but he is excited to return to the course for his delayed season debut.
"It's a little strange to be starting my season this late in the year, but I'm happy to be back," Scheffler said. "I'm feeling good and well-rested. I'm looking forward to playing at Pebble and overall, I'm feeling good."
