'PGA Tour Names Nick Dunlap as Rookie of the Year'
Nick Dunlap has been named the recipient of the Arnold Palmer Award for the 2024 season, earning the title of PGA Tour's Rookie of the Year.
Dunlap made history on the Tour by becoming the first player to win as both an amateur and a professional in the same year.
At just 20 years old, the Alabama native is also the youngest rookie to receive this award since Jordan Spieth in 2013.
According to commissioner Jay Monahan, "Nick has made his mark in the PGA Tour record books." He began the 2024 season as a collegiate golfer and ended it with two PGA Tour victories, ranking among the top 50 players in the FedExCup.
The award is voted on by PGA Tour members who have played in at least 15 events during the 2024 season. Dunlap received 57 percent of the votes, surpassing fellow nominees Max Greyserman, Jake Knapp, and Matthieu Pavon.
During his sophomore year at the University of Alabama, Dunlap made history by winning The American Express in January, becoming the first amateur to win on the tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991. He turned professional just four days after his victory.
Dunlap continued to make waves in the golf world with a win at the Barracuda Championship in July.
His impressive season landed him at No. 49 in the FedExCup standings, qualifying him for the Tour's Signature Events in 2025.
Dunlap concluded his amateur career as the top-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He also won the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur and the 2023 U.S. Amateur, joining Tiger Woods as the only players to achieve this feat.
