One of the country's most renowned golf courses is facing the consequences of Helene, the former Category 4 hurricane that hit Florida on Friday and was later downgraded to a tropical depression as it moved into Georgia.

According to Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley, officials are still evaluating the extent of the damage caused to the iconic course, which has been hosting the annual Masters Tournament since 1934. Augusta, Ga., is situated in the eastern part of the state, near the border of South Carolina.

Ridley stated on Saturday, "Our Augusta community has been severely impacted by Hurricane Helene. We are currently assessing the situation at Augusta National Golf Club."

He added, "In the meantime, our main focus and efforts are on our employees, neighbors, and local business owners in Augusta. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, as well as all those in Georgia and the Southeast who have been affected."

Augusta was in the direct path of Helene as the massive storm swept through the South on Thursday and Friday, causing at least 44 fatalities with sustained winds of over 140 mph.

Multiple reports indicate that there was significant damage to the surrounding neighborhoods, but the club has not released any information about the specific impact.

The next Masters Tournament is scheduled to take place from April 9-13, 2025.
