Billy Horschel, who came in tied for second at The Open Championship last weekend, pulled out of the 3M Open on Thursday in Blaine, Minn.

Alternate Adam Long was substituted into the competition in place of Horschel, who cited sickness on social media as his reason for withdrawing.

\"Unfortunately, I had to withdraw from the 3M Open,\" Horschel wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. \"I woke up with a fever, body aches, and my back was completely locked up. I tried to warm up and give it a shot, but my body just wouldn't cooperate. I'm really disappointed to have to withdraw, especially since my family and I enjoyed this event last year and we were hoping to improve on our T-12 finish.

\"I apologize to 3M and everyone involved with the tournament. I also want to say sorry to the fans. Thank you for all the support over the last few days as I prepared for this week. Once again, I'm sorry!!\"

Horschel, 37, claimed victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic in April and is currently ranked 26th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Long, 36, has one career win and is currently ranked 219th in the FedEx Cup standings.
