According to the Pioneer Press, the Minnesota Vikings are planning to re-sign running back Cam Akers, pending a physical examination.

Akers, who is 25 years old, suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in November of last year. He also missed a majority of the 2021 season due to a torn Achilles.

In six games with the Vikings, Akers rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries. He was acquired by the team in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams in September 2023.

Throughout his career with the Rams (2020-23) and Vikings, Akers has accumulated 1,581 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He has also caught 38 passes for 320 yards and one touchdown. The Rams drafted him in the second round in 2020 and he played a key role in their Super Bowl LVI victory.

The current running back roster for the Vikings includes Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler, Kene Nwangwu, DeWayne McBride, and Myles Gaskin.
