NFL unrestricted free agent safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. received a six-game suspension from the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league's policy on using performance-enhancing substances.

The suspension will not take effect until the regular season, provided Gipson signs with a team. The former Pro Bowler, who earned the honor in 2014 while playing for the Cleveland Browns, is still allowed to participate in all preseason activities, including games.

Over his 12-year career in the NFL, Gipson has recorded 684 tackles, 33 interceptions, and three touchdowns in 173 games (165 starts) for the Browns (2012-15), Jacksonville Jaguars (2016-18), Houston Texans (2019), Chicago Bears (2020-21), and San Francisco 49ers after going undrafted out of Wyoming.

The 33-year-old, who was reportedly contemplating retirement, started all 33 games he played in over the past two seasons for the 49ers, tallying 121 tackles and six interceptions.
