"Texans Defensive Lineman Mario Edwards Jr. Receives 4-Game Suspension for Substance Infraction"

"Suspension of 4 Games Issued to Texans Defensive Lineman Mario Edwards Jr. for Substance Infraction"

The NFL has suspended Mario Edwards Jr., a defensive lineman for the Houston Texans, for four games without pay due to a violation of the league's substance abuse policy. This announcement was made on Monday.

Edwards, who joined the Texans as a free agent in March, has played in all six games for the team (5-1) and has recorded 18 tackles, two sacks, five quarterback hits, and one fumble recovery.

The 30-year-old will be absent for the upcoming games against the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions. He will be eligible to return on November 11.

In the 2015 NFL Draft, Edwards was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the second round. Throughout his career, he has played in 120 games (39 starts) for various teams, including the Raiders, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks, and Texans. He has accumulated 174 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 57 QB hits, 23.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Edwards' suspension coincides with the completion of Texans defensive end Denico Autry's six-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy against performance enhancing drugs.

Autry, who signed a $20 million, two-year contract with the Texans in March, released a statement after his suspension on July 29. He claimed that he unknowingly took a medication that contained a banned substance.

Last season, Autry had a career-high 11.5 sacks and 50 tackles in 17 games (14 starts) for the Titans. Throughout his 10-year career with the Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, and Titans, he has played in 142 games (89 starts) and has recorded 59 sacks and 310 tackles.
