"Sportsbooks Praise Jets' Acquisition of Davante Adams"

'Jets' Acquisition of Davante Adams Receives Praise from Sportsbooks'

The front office of the New York Jets swiftly responded to Monday night's tough defeat against Buffalo by finalizing the long-rumored trade for wide receiver Davante Adams on Tuesday morning.

Oddsmakers wasted no time in adjusting their predictions for the Jets' chances of bouncing back and becoming a threat in the AFC by the end of the season.

Following their loss on Monday, the Jets' odds to win the AFC East and AFC Championship at DraftKings dropped to +700 and +1500, respectively. However, after news of the Adams trade broke, those odds shifted to +650 and +1300.

At BetMGM, the Jets' odds of making the playoffs also improved from +165 to +140.

Currently, the Jets are third in their division, trailing the 2-3 Miami Dolphins by half a game. They are also 10th in the AFC standings, just one game behind the Indianapolis Colts who hold the final wild card spot with a record of 3-3.

While DraftKings maintained their Super Bowl odds for the Jets at +3000, BetMGM shortened their title odds from +3500 to +3000.

REUNION TOUR

Adams has long been linked to a potential trade to the Jets, where he will reunite with his former Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. The duo played together for eight years and were responsible for 622 receptions, 7,590 yards, and 69 touchdowns.

In three games this season, Adams, who is 31 years old, has 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown. However, he has been sidelined for the past three games due to a lingering hamstring injury and has reportedly been pushing for a trade to a handful of teams.

Through six games, the Jets rank 22nd in total offense and 16th in passing. Rodgers has primarily relied on Garrett Wilson, who leads the team with 41 catches on 67 targets. Another former teammate from Green Bay, Allen Lazard, is second with 26 catches on 40 targets but has struggled with drops.

With Adams now joining the team, Lazard can take on the role of the third receiver. Free-agent addition Mike Williams, who has only 10 catches for 145 yards and no touchdowns, can also benefit from Adams' arrival as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

STOKING THE FIRE

Despite being a four-time NFL MVP, Rodgers' addition of Adams is unlikely to boost his chances of winning a fifth MVP award. So far this season, he has an 84.4 passer rating with nine touchdowns and five interceptions, completing 61.8% of his passes.

DraftKings has maintained Rodgers as a +5000 longshot to win MVP, ranking him 16th among the players they are offering odds on.

More importantly, Adams' arrival comes at a crucial time for the Jets as they enter a tough stretch of games. After facing the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) and New England Patriots (1-5) on the road, they will return home to host the AFC South leader, Houston Texans (5-1). They also have four divisional games remaining, including two against the Dolphins.

HEFTY PRICE TAG

According to reports, the Jets will send a conditional third-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for Adams, which could potentially become a second-round pick based on his performance for the rest of the season. Additionally, the Jets have agreed to take on the remainder of Adams' salary. He is currently in the third year of a five-year, $140 million contract signed in 2022, with base salaries of $35.64 million in 2025 and 2026. However, according to the Spotrac sports salary database, none of the remaining money in his contract is guaranteed.
