Several Buccaneers Absent from Practice, Including QB Baker Mayfield with Knee Injury
Baker Mayfield, the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was unable to take part in the team's walkthrough on Wednesday due to a knee problem. If the team had been practicing at full speed, Mayfield would not have been able to participate, according to the team's announcement.
Mayfield was just one of many Bucs players who were unable to practice, including linebacker K.J. Britt (ankle), tight end Cade Otton (knee), wide receiver Sterling Shepard (foot), safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (knee), and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs (foot/knee).
Star wide receiver Mike Evans was given a day off to rest.
At 29 years old, Mayfield has started in all 14 games for the Bucs, who currently lead the NFC South with a record of 8-6. He has completed 328 out of 463 passes (70.8%) for 3,617 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, earning a passer rating of 104.1.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Mayfield had been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. This was due to his impressive performance in the Bucs' 40-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, where he completed 22 out of 27 passes for 288 yards, four touchdowns, and a passer rating of 135.3.
Throughout his career, Mayfield has completed 63.2% of his passes for 23,949 yards, 162 touchdowns, and 88 interceptions in 103 regular-season games (with 100 starts) for the Cleveland Browns (2018-2021), Carolina Panthers (2022), Los Angeles Rams (2022), and Bucs.
In 2018, Mayfield was selected as the first overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Browns after playing for Oklahoma in college.
On Wednesday, several Tampa Bay players were listed as limited participants in practice, including running back Bucky Irving (back/hip), defensive lineman Logan Hall (shoulder/wrist), and safeties Mike Edwards (hamstring), Christian Izien (groin), and Tykee Smith (knee).
