Ravens Acquire WR Diontae Johnson to Boost Comp Pick Chances
Diontae Johnson was acquired by the Baltimore Ravens shortly after being released by the Houston Texans, however, the team has no intention of keeping him on their roster.
This move will not be finalized until after the Super Bowl, which means that Johnson will not be joining the Ravens for the playoffs or as a replacement for injured wide receiver Zay Flowers.
Johnson's contract will expire at the end of the league year and, due to his tumultuous time with the Ravens, he is not a part of their plans for the 2025 season. However, by claiming Johnson, the Ravens secure a compensatory pick if he is signed by another team before the 2025 draft.
Houston waived the former Pro Bowl wide receiver, who has played for four different NFL teams since March, on Tuesday. Johnson was then claimed off waivers by the Ravens on December 23rd.
During his time with the Texans, Johnson only played in one regular-season game and the AFC wild-card victory against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday. He had a total of three receptions for 24 yards on five targets.
With the Ravens, Johnson only caught one pass for six yards and was suspended for one game after allegedly refusing to enter a game against the Philadelphia Eagles on December 1st.
Johnson was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Carolina Panthers in March and then from the Panthers to the Ravens in October.
As a third-round draft pick in 2019, Johnson had 30 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns in seven games (all starts) for the Panthers earlier this season.
Throughout his six seasons in the NFL, Johnson has a total of 424 receptions for 4,738 yards and 28 touchdowns in 89 regular-season games (75 starts) for the Steelers (2019-23), Panthers, Ravens, and Texans.
